How to play Basketball
Basketball is a team sport usually played with two teams of 5 players. The objective is to score more points than the opposing team by throwing the ball through the other team’s hoop, which is suspended 10 feet (just over 3 meters) off the floor. Shots can either count for 2 points or 3 points, depending on the player’s distance from the hoop. To advance across the court, players can pass the ball to their teammates by throwing it, or run while bouncing the ball against the ground (dribbling). Once a player grabs the ball, they can’t start dribbling again. Their only option is to take a shot at the hoop or pass the ball to another player.
Where does basketball come from?
Basketball was invented in 1891 in Massachusetts, United States, by the Canadian-American sports coach James Naismith. Naismith wanted to invent an intensive indoor sport to keep student athletes in shape during the long, cold winters. The name Basketball is derived from the peach baskets that were originally used as hoops. Originally, the game was played using a laced leather football. The iconic 8-panel orange basketball widely used today was only invented in the 1950s.
Flick and Swipe Basketball games
In these games, you have to flick or swipe to throw the ball at the hoop. These skill based games often include features like moving hoops and other obstacles to gradually increase the difficulty level.
Trick Shot Basketball games
In these games, you have to take shots at the hoop from different positions. In some cases, your shot will only count if you perform the right tricks, like bouncing the ball into the hoop via the ground, hitting the backboard, or striking a target along the way.
3D Basketball games
These games come closest to real-life basketball. Move across a 3D court to approach the hoop, or take free shots from a range of different positions such as the corners, wings, or the half-court line.
